In November 2017, we hosted our first Christmas Makers Market to celebrate and showcase the work of local makers. Since then, the event has gone from strength to strength as we welcome over 1100 people through the doors at last year's Market and have raised over £3000 for Hamilton District Foodbank with the Pop-up Tearoom that makes an annual appearance at the event.
The Makers Market is enjoyed by our stallholders and everyone who pops by to do some Christmas shopping. Not only is it a great way to kick off the Festive season but it's an opportunity for makers to sell their products and for you to buy high quality, handmade items directly from the maker.
Based on the huge success of the Market so far (it's now a feature of the Strathaven calendar), preparations are well underway for this year's Market. Like last year's, it'll be held over two days which means more makers and more cake.
This year, the Market is on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November at Strathaven Scout and Guide Hall from 12pm-4pm. However, this year we're running a quiet hour from 11am-12pm. The music will be turned down low, there won't be any flashing lights, and it'll be a lot quieter meaning it'll be easier to get about. We want everyone who comes along to have fun and enjoy their time at the Market so want to invite those who would benefit from the event being a bit quieter to join us during this time.
There are different makers each day (that means there's over 30 stall holders) which gives you an excuse for joining us on both days. Everything on display is made, designed or up-cycled in Scotland and the Market is an opportunity for local artists and makers to sell and display their work to a local audience. It also gives you a chance to meet the makers and have a good chat with them about their work whilst getting some Christmas shopping done.
We're so excited for this year's Market and can't wait to have you join us! Make sure you're following us on Facebook and Instagram where we'll be introducing each of our makers.
