The doors will soon be opening to our annual Christmas Makers Market at Strathaven Scout & Guide Hall where over 40 local and Scotland based Makers come together to showcase and sell their work across the weekend. It's a great opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done whilst supporting small, independent businesses, and it's also a chance for you to meet the Makers themselves.
With lots of information going between our social media channels and newsletters, we thought we'd pull together a handy guide of everything you need to know before you come along...
Where is the Christmas Makers Market?
The Christmas Makers Market is at the Strathaven Scout & Guide Hall, 64 Kirk Street, ML10 6LB.
When is the Christmas Makers Market?
The Market is on Saturday 9th AND Sunday 10th November.
Are there different Makers each day?
Yes, there's a list of all of the Makers further down the page. And you'll find more info on our social media channels.
Can I pay by card?
Absolutely! Most of the Makers will be accepting card payments but bring some cash just in case.
What are the opening times?
The Market is open from 12pm-4pm each day but there is a quiet hour from 11am-12pm on both days.
What is the quiet hour and who is it for?
The quiet hour is for people who will have a better experience of the Market when it's less noisy, a bit easier to move around, and less overstimulating/overwhelming. We turn the music off, put the fairy lights on 'still' and limit the number of people in the hall at any one time.
Is there disabled access?
There is a small flight of stairs within the vestibule of the Scout & Guide Hall but there is a fixed wheelchair ramp at them. There will be a volunteer on hand to help at the door into the main hall.
Are there toilets including a disabled access toilet at the venue?
Yes. There are male and female toilets, and a disabled access toilet.
Is there any baby changing facilities at the venue?
Yes, there are baby changing facilities in the cloakroom area of the gents toilets.
Is there parking available at the venue?
There is limited on-street parking near the Scout & Guide Hall but we recommend parking in the long-stay car park on Station Road which is a 2 minute walk from the venue. It's free to park there and your vehicle will be much safer than it would be if parked on the road.
How do I get to Strathaven using public transport?
If coming from Glasgow, you can get the 3C from North Hanover Street (please note that this service doesn't run on a Sunday). However, you can get a train to East Kilbride or Hamilton Central, followed by a bus from either East Kilbride or Hamilton bus stations.
What else is there in the town?
Strathaven has lots of amazing shops and eateries. They are all open on Saturdays with most being open on Sundays as well. You can find out more about the other small businesses in the town here .
Is the venue dog friendly?
Unfortunately dogs aren't allowed in the Scout & Guide Hall. However, service animals are welcome.
