‘The Washing Green’ was a site-specific art installation in the Allison Green that coincided with ‘Our Generation Strathaven’.
100 plain tea towels were sent to professional artists, amateur artists, and local community groups during the first month of ‘Generation Strathaven’ for them to turn into works of art. These tea towels were later returned to Creative Strathaven in time fot them being displayed on washing lines in the Allison Green as a nod to its former use as a washing green.
A selection of tea towels from ‘The Washing Green’ are on display as part of ‘Generation Strathaven’ at the Strathaven John Hastie Museum at 10 Todshill Street. The exhibition is open from 10am-4pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 1.30pm-4pm on Sundays until Sunday 14th April.
